I just got overly excited about a book called “Gender, race, and class in the media” which contains so many topics that i am trying to educate myself on. Its mostly about white supremacy in the media (including pornography and the mistreatment of sex workers) and other sexist and racist things that for some reason need to be pointed out for people before they realise it.

Im just at the library with my boyfriend and i gasped and asked him to please take the book out for me since im no longer a student.

I’ll probably be posting quotations from it here and there.

Im almost done reading the asoiaf series but i might have to put it off a few more days to read this haha…i wish i had more time to read while i was in college. It seems like I’ve used it more after graduation than before.

My sociology class is crazy

Things the professor said today:

He’s this old white guy first of all. Totally a weirdo, too. Mind you, this class is about “Intimate Relationships,” and so far we are talking about the essential elements to a lasting relationship, such as communication, trust, etc. The class was cracking up laughing at almost every word coming out of his mouth - He is a total clown.

and I now quote:

“If I’m in a relationship and someone tells me they don’t like me…well, if you don’t like me, fuck ya!”

“Girls can have penis-envy. That’s normal - they want the things guys have that they don’t have to work for, things they have been neglected of their whole lives. They don’t want to have kids and be burdened with all of that responsibility. But guys…if you have vagina-envy, you are WEIRD. Come on. You want to have kids? Imagine a head and shoulders coming out of you. Who WANTS that. I can hardly pass a tiny stool, what makes you think I can birth a CHILD?!”

To a female student in the class: “What’s the first thing you look at in the morning?” Her: “My figure.”
Him: “What about it?”
Her: “My stomach, I hate it.”
Him: “You have to look at things you like.”
Her: “Well I like my breasts so I could care less”
Him: “THAT SHOULD BE A SHIRT it can be our class slogan for self-esteem.”
Her: “Well I don’t look at those first everyday. I look at them and fluff them up-“
Him: “FLUFF THEM UP?! What? They either look good or they don’t! What’s there to do?!”
Her: “Well you know, make sure they look right and level…”
Him: “If that’s the first thing I saw everyday I would die happy!” (and so on…)

Him: “So you’re at shorty’s (A bar near campus), right, and a guy comes up to  you and says “You are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.” what’s your reaction?”
Girl in class: “Uhhh, he’s drunk! He doesn’t mean it, he just wants to get in my pants!”
Him: “Well duh, you’re at a bar and he’s a guy, no guy thinks ‘hey that girl looks like she would make an interesting conversation, i should talk to her.’ But really, the real reason you don’t believe him is because YOU don’t think you are the most beautiful woman.”
ME: “Maybe if this were starbucks it’d be a different story. At least then the guy isn’t drunk.”
Him: “Yeah! A guy comes up to you in starbucks and calls you beautiful.”
Me: “Except now he’s just trying to get you to buy him coffee because he is in withdrawal and thinks he can take advantage of a beautiful woman in a coffee shop, and he thinks you owe him coffee for the compliment.”
Him: “Okay, so maybe these examples aren’t so good…”

I have a feeling I am going to turn into a radical feminist by the end of this semester lawl
